Program Description:
Center for Inspired Teaching's mission is to ensure schools make the most of children's innate desire to learn. We do this by investing in teachers.
Center for Inspired Teaching is now a state-approved teacher preparation agency offering a 15-month teacher certification program that recruits, selects, prepares, and supports highly qualified individuals who wish to serve the children of the District of Columbia as teachers. Participants in this program will learn instructional methods that actively engage learners and will be supported in creating energizing classrooms where students thrive and find joy in their schoolwork.
The Inspired Teacher Certification Program is rooted in the belief that teachers can be changemakers in their classrooms, schools, and society as a whole. Becoming a part of Inspired Teaching means joining a movement that sees teachers as the solution to the problems in our educational system.
The Inspired Teacher Certification Program seeks to prepare educators in 3 areas: Early Childhood, Elementary, or English Language Arts (middle and high school). Program Includes:
- Summer pre-service coursework and first-hand experience working with students.
- Support in securing a full time paid teaching position in a DC public or public charter school in fall 2009.
- Ongoing coursework and regular visits from a mentor throughout the first year.
- Connection to hundreds of passionate educators through Inspired Teaching's network of teachers who are serving as change-agents in the DC region.
