Changing the Conversation
In order to make schools places where children and teacher thrive, dramatic changes need to take place in how we think and talk about school in this country. Inspired Teachers are helping to change the conversation in these important ways:
Inspired Teachers' SymposiumCenter for Inspired Teaching is committed to turning up the volume on teachers' voices. The Inspired Teachers' Symposium, organized much like an academic conference, is an annual event in which the city's most dynamic educators share stories of how their efforts led to meaningful changes in the lives of children. Inspired Teaching Fellows are invited to submit proposals for talks or poster presentation for the June event.
Inspired Teaching Journal
The Inspired Teaching Journal provides a unique outlet for the work of Inspired Teachers in the Washington, DC area and beyond. The journal includes a range of types of teacher writing, including classroom-based research, experiences of Inspired Teachers and their students, and practical ideas for classroom lessons. The aim of the journal is to give teachers an opportunity to share their voices and to showcase the work of the city's most dynamic educators.
Inspired Teacher Action Research Network
Inspired Teaching supports small groups of self-selected and highly motivated teachers through an action research project - a project in which educators engage in a systematic inquiry with the goals of gaining insight, developing reflective practice, effecting positive changes in teaching practice, and improving student outcomes. Participants identify an area of inquiry, develop an "intervention" in which they change some aspect of their teaching, and carry out pre- and post-intervention data collection to determine the effect of the change. The seminar format allows participants to give and receive feedback. Past participants have published their action research in the Inspired Teaching Journal and presented their projects at local and national education conferences.
